Occupants of the home at 918 2nd avenue in Sweet Home noticed an odor of smoke and opened the door to the garage to discover the garage involved in fire. The occupants escaped the fire uninjured and called 911. 14 Firefighters responded from the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District, extinguishing the fire before it spread to the house. The home sustained significant smoke damage. It is estimated that the dollar loss is approximately $75,000 between damage to the structure and loss of the contents. A deputy from the Oregon State Fire Marshall's Office lead the investigation. The cause of the fire was determined to be a match that was carelessly discarded into a pile of clothing.
