On Thursday, November 9th at approximately 3:21 pm Sweet Home Fire District was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 28227 Santiam Hwy. First units went enroute at 3:23pm, arriving just 3 minutes later at 3:26pm. While enroute dispatch notified units the caller was reporting there was a victim still inside the structure and flames were visible. First arriving unit spoke to the caller, he confirmed there was a victim who was unable to escape the fire. Crews made a rapid attack entering the structure, finding heavy smoke and heat inside. Due to the rescue attempt additional resources were requested and received from Lebanon Fire District. Within minutes, using a thermal imaging camera, crews were able to locate the victim and discovered them to already be deceased. Crews continued to extinguish the fire and overhaul the structure checking for any hidden fire or hotspots. LCSO was notified of the fatality and they are currently investigating the fire as per protocol anytime there is a fatality.
