On June 10, 2019, at 9:24 PM Sweet Home Fire District along with Lebanon Fire District responded to the area of bates bridge. When rescue crews arrived they began to search for two victims who had been stuck on an island after their inflatable raft had popped. Luckily a nearby farmer was outside working on his fence and heard the two yelling for help. Neighbor Kurt Clark ran to the area seen in the photo and spotted the two stranded on the island. He went back to his house, grabbed his canoe and paddled downriver in the dark. After locating the stranded man and women he took them downstream to a riverbank then finally took them across the river where they were able to meet up with rescue crews. Both victims were uninjured and friends drove them back to Corvallis.
