Firefighters from the Sweet Home Fire District responded to a structure fire at 10:14 Sunday night at the abandoned mill site at 2210 Tamarack Street.  The building was heavily involved when crews arrived.  Seventeen firefighters from the District's main station as well as the Foster and Crawfordsville stations, worked to extinguish the fire.  After two hours on scene the fire was out and crews were released, leaving personnel on scene throughout the night until the investigation could be completed.  Deputy Oregon State Fire Marshal Jonathan Jones lead the investigation, determining that the cause of the fire was unknown but human-caused.  The determination was based on the evidence available at the time and is subject to change should further evidence or information become available.

The building was formerly the shipping and receiving facility for what was the Willamette/ Weyerhauser Mill.  It was unoccupied at the time of the fire and is currently owned by Linn County.
