WILDLAND FIRE JOB POSITIONS

Salary: $17.50-$24.00/ hour
Benefits: 6% employee PERS paid by District.
Status: Full Time, Seasonal

POSITION SUMMARY:
“ENTRY LEVEL” performs assignments as an entry level wildland firefighter crew member in developing a working knowledge of fire suppression and fuels management techniques, practices, and terminology. These members may assist in more specialized assignments such as structural firefighting, rescue operations, emergency medical operations and others. Training opportunities will be available for specialized assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:

Documentation required:

  • High School diploma/ GED/ or equivalent

  • Successful applicants will be required to take and pass the physical fitness Work Capacity Test at the arduous level
  • Valid Driver’s license at time of hire
  • Must pass criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior Firefighting experience in wildland and/or structural fire

  • Completion of NWCG S-130, S-190, L-180
  • Forestry/logging experience, or other experience with hand and power tools

Battalion Chief

Position: Battalion Chief/ Paramedic

Salary: $100,740-$104,844 Annually

Benefits: PERS paid by employer, Medical and dental premiums 90% paid by

employer with optional employer paid VEBA, employer match for

deferred compensation up to 5% of annual salary

Sweet Home Fire:

Sweet Home Fire serves a population of roughly 19,000 citizens within a fire district that

spans 159 square miles and an ambulance service area of 971 square miles. The district

responds to about 3,300 fire and EMS calls annually. We are a combination department

made up of 12 full-time line staff, 10 part-time line staff, a Fire Chief, an Administrative

Assistant, and approximately 40 volunteers. We also operate a wildland division,

consisting of approximately 25 employees, under the supervision of a Division Chief

Position Summary:

The Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District is conducting an internal testing process to

fill a Battalion Chief position. The position is a full-time, shift position working a 1/3,

2/3 schedule. This position supervises duty personnel and responds on emergencies in

many capacities. The Battalion Chief on duty functions as the Incident Commander on a

variety of different emergencies including structure fires and technical rescues. Battalion

Chiefs also function in the role of firefighter, apparatus operator, company officer, and

Paramedic on a transporting ambulance.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or GED equivalent

2. Two-year college degree in fire science or EMS or equivalent training

3. Must have been in possession of a valid driver’s license for three years without

record of suspension or revocation

4. Must pass a physical exam, mandatory drug screen test and a criminal background

history check

5. Three years experience as a paid full-time company officer or Six years

experience as a volunteer company officer, or equivalent

6. Must possess the following current certifications:

a. Current state of Oregon Paramedic certification, by date of hire

b. NFPA Firefighter 2

c. NFPA Apparatus equipped with Fire Pump (AO)

d. NFPA Operations Level Responder (HazMat)

e. NFPA Fire Instructor 1

f. NFPA Fire Officer 1

g. Single Resource Engine Boss

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Task Force Leader or above

2. Fire Officer 2 or above

3. NFPA Rope Rescue

4. NFPA Surface Water Rescue

5. NFPA Swiftwater Rescue

6. NFPA Apparatus Equipped with an Aerial Device

7. Leadership Training
