The Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund has once again awarded grant funds to the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District for the purchase of firefighting equipment.  In August the fire district received $4,490 from the grant allowing us to purchase two battery-powered positive pressure ventilation fans which are used to remove smoke and super-heated gasses from burning structures.  The use of these fans allows firefighters to more quickly and efficiently locate and extinguish fires in burning structures.  It also allows them to provide more survivable conditions for any potential victims of that fire who may still be inside, while allowing the firefighters to find them more quickly.  These new fans operate on batteries but they can also be plugged into electrical outlets on the fire engines and trucks if needed which means that they do not create carbon monoxide as do gas-powered fans, which would then be circulated into the house causing an added hazard.  Sweet Home Fire is very grateful for the continued support that the Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund has shown to the safety of our community.
